Homework Week 7
What connection does the company CompuServe have with gifs?
The GIF file format was developed by Compuserve and is sometimes still refered to as Compuserve Gif. It uses the LZW (Limpel-Ziv and Welch) compression algorithm for 8-bit color images. It is the only image format supported by all graphical web browsers - even early ones.
Please explain optimization for the Web...
Search engine optimization means ensuring that your Web pages are accessible to search engines and are focused in ways that help improve the chances they will be found.
How does screen resolution affect a website?
Some people are viewing the web at high resolutions, 1920×1200 pixels, like thenew MacBook Pro laptops. For these users, average-sized images and text on the web appear small. Other people view the web at small resolutions 1024×768 pixels. For them, average-sized images and text on the web appear larger and fill a larger percentage of their screen’s overall space.
If your site is designed at a high resolution, the average person visiting the site may see a very distorted page. The site’s images may not come across as intended, and the visitor may have to scroll from left to right in order to view all of the page’s content.
What does it mean to be Section 508 compliant?
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires that when Federal Agencies develop or use electronic and information technology, information and data should be accessible to people with disabilities.
If you are a federal employee, or use federal services, it means that all information should be available to you if you live with any kind of a disability.
If you are selling to the Federal Government, you should make all information accessible to people with disabilities.
Different government agencies interpret it differently, some are very liberal, and larger agencies are quite rigorous.
